CARLA ROTONDO - BIO & BANTER Banter with Carla Rotondo, Executive Producer WHO ARE YOU AN WHERE ARE YOU FROM? I’m Carla Rotondo and as my name suggests I’m an Italian .. from the South, Napoli to be exact.I came to live in NZ when I was 13.5 years old, arghh !!! Have been struggling with canned spaghetti and jandals ever since. I spent most of my life running away and then coming back, I am now back and I love it, I call NZ and specifically Auckland mia casa/home. I love NZ and try to fit in as much as possible (still a work in progress .. me thinks!). WHAT DO YOU MOST ENJOY ABOUT YOUR JOB? My biggest passions are images, films and people. I love the variety of people you get to come across and I love seeing how great ideas come to life. I love catching up shooting the breeze and laughing. I love seeing the creative process build and build and then ‘BOOM’., I love the ‘work’ family that I belong to. I live to have a laugh and to giggle and there are so many laughs to be had. I think I like the word ‘love’ too much … I am all extremes. WHY CHOOSE TO WORK WITH A PHOTORAPHER-DIRECTOR? Photographers are such great story tellers, they normally only get one image to tell a whole story so when they are given the opportunity to shoot more, they are fluid, clever and articulate with telling a story economically and succinctly. Photography is such a great discipline so when photographers shoot moving image they come to it with loads and packets of experience and enthusiasm. Love, love, love seeing it, can never tire of it. MOST INTERESTING HUMAN YOU’VE WORKED WITH? I worked on a shoot with Madonna in London and I found her entourage of minions so hilarious and embarrassing. That is why I love NZ and NZ’ers, they are so damned cool and open and honest and humble and fun and cool and unfuckwitable (it’s a word!). WHO AND WHAT LIVES AT YOUR HOUSE? I live with my husband and 2 extremely exuberant (fucking mental) children, our dog Fritz who is my boyfriend and Dickens the old wise cat. Our house is loud and slightly left of centre but there is always enough food for 10 more and the dinner table is always loud and chatty, sometimes a little toooo political but I like that ! Lunches at home on the week -ends often turn to dinners to late night snacks. WHERE CAN WE FIND YOU WHEN YOU’RE NOT WORKING? I love swimming (because it’s the only time I can’t talk, it makes me shut the f’ up). I’ve often got my head in a book (it drives my family mad) and if I’m not reading I’m looking up films to see. I looooooove movies. My favourite date night with my husband is going to the movies (poor bastard, he had no idea it would be this exciting !!). FAVOURITE MOVIE? Favourite movie ……… too many, there are just so many from ‘One Flew over the Cuckoo’s nest’ , ‘ La Haine’, ‘Raging Bull’, ‘The Exorcist’, ‘Fargo’, ‘Taxi Driver’, ‘The Godfather’ and so so so many others. FAVOURITE SEASON? Favourite season? I love both summer and winter and everything in between gets on my nerves, what’s the point of the in between ? I love the heat and the sea and I love a skiing so bring on real seasons. Summer to swim and swim and swim, the sea is my favourite place on the planet and winter to feel that biting, powerful cold whilst being warm and snug and it makes the colour of everything looks so clean and crisp. TEA OR COFFEE? Coffee. Amen. One in the morning at home with milk on my stove top Moca (Bialetti) and one later but before lunch then after that it’s… Gin or Wine. Tea when I’m sick …. or when I want to pretend to be civilized.
